Healthy fats and the ketogenic diet is definitely ‘trending’ today! Though it may be the current fad in diets, healthy fats are incredibly important for the health of our body. Let’s flashback for the moment to high school biology and the human cell… What we learned at that time (assuming we were awake!) was that absolutely every tissue in our body is made up of cells, and the lining of the cell or cell wall is made up of essential fatty acids or ‘phospholipids’. The integrity of this cell wall is integral to absorption of nutrients and excretion of toxins/waste from our body. But these fatty acids are called ‘essential’ because our body doesn’t make them– that’s right, they have to come in through our diet!!! Check out this decadent chocolate confection that is made out of avocados which are filled with essential fats as well as protein! It’s super easy to make and a great dessert or snack for any occasion.

- Flesh of 4 soft avocados
- 1/2 cup raw cacao powder (can also use unsweetened cocoa powder)
- 1/3 cup dairy-free milk (recommended: unsweetened-- good dairy-free milk options: coconut, hemp, almond)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/3 cup maple syrup or more until desired sweetness is reached

- Add all ingredients into food processor and process until fully smooth and incorporated. Periodically, stop machine and scrape down sides.
